Hybrid Releases New Data Supporting POSS in PPS

New data from Hybrid touts the benefits of POSS® to enhance polyphenylene sulfide (PPS).

In a technical data sheet for its flow aid SD6U58.13, Hybrid reports that SO1458 POSS affords flow enhancement in PPS 1200L without a reduction in molecular weight or bimodal grading. POSS provides processing stability and high use temperature without depleting performance, something that previous chemical additives were unable to achieve.

Hybrid Manager Dr. Greg Brust said the new data furthers the case for using POSS in a variety of high value thermoplastics.

“POSS can be a real game-changer for industries that need processing aids in thermoplastics and thermosets that can retain and even enhance mechanical properties,” said Brust. “This new data should be of particular interest to oil and gas, aerospace, under-hood automotive and microelectronic industries.”

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, known as POSS, bridges the gap between ceramic and organic materials to form a single molecular composition. POSS additives provide enhancement and even new synergies with standard chemical additives, which expands the performance enhancing tool kit available to polymer engineers. POSS is created and manufactured by Hybrid, a chemical additive company in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
