Hybrid Named Tibbetts Award Recipient

Hybrid has been named a 2015 Tibbetts Award recipient by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The award recognizes excellence in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Only 23 small businesses around the United States received the award this year.

The Tibbetts Award, named for former National Science Foundation administrative officer and SBIR program pioneer Roland Tibbetts, distinguishes those companies that have successfully commercialized cutting edge technology products for the benefit of national defense, education or health. Tibbetts recipients separate themselves by transforming research into tangible products that spur new industries and grow the nation’s economy.

Hybrid President Joe Lichtenhan said the award represents a new pinnacle in the history of the company.

“We are honored to be named a 2015 recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Tibbetts Award. To be considered among the nation’s best in research and development and is quite a feat,” said Lichtenhan. “We look forward to further enhancing a number of industries through POSS® for years to come.”

Hybrid’s work with polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane, known as POSS, has improved product performance in a variety of industries, including defense, oil and gas and personal care. POSS is a chemical that bridges the gap between ceramic and organic materials, allowing it to be altered to give the molecule enhanced mechanical properties.

Hybrid will join other Tibbetts recipients at the White House on June 14 to receive formal recognition. They will also be featured at the 2015 National SBIR/STTR Conference in Washington D.C., where the best entrepreneurs in innovation and commercialization gather annually.
