Hybrid Offers Formulations of Epoxy Additive

Hybrid will now offer several industry-ready formulations of its high performance EP0408 epoxy additive, providing a variety of delivery mechanisms for the epoxycyclohexyl POSS® cage mixture.

The addition of these customized products signals Hybrid’s ongoing commitment to innovation and meeting unique customer needs. The company will also continue making specific formulations upon request.

Hybrid President Joe Lichtenhan said the company’s longstanding work with the electronics, coatings and photoresist industry led it to develop the line of commercial-ready formulations.

“We frequently receive requests for EP0408 POSS, simply because it promotes adhesion and gives products unique properties that typically are not attainable with traditional chemical additives,” said Lichtenhan. “However, we also saw that companies needed different delivery mechanisms, and we created these products to help meet those needs.”

Hybrid’s industry-ready variations include mixing EP0408 in solvents and reactive diluents. Solvents carry the EP0408 into a formulation and then are removed or lost by evaporation. Reactive diluents are capable of reacting with EP0408 or another component with which they are incorporated.

Typical solvents include the environmentally-friendly solvent with PGMEA, which is used in semiconductor manufacturing and ketones like cyclopentanone and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK).  Reactive diluents include 3,4-Epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexanecarboxylate, Bisphenol-A Diallyl Ether and Neopentyl Glycol Diglycidyl Ether. The standard dilution is 70:30 (EP0408:solvent/reactive diluent) but can be customized depending on customer need.

Lichtenhan said companies are encouraged to contact Hybrid’s team of experts to find the EP0408 formulation that best fits their manufacturing needs.

EP0408 is a type of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane. Known as POSS, it is a Nanostuctured® chemical that bridges the gap between ceramic and organic materials to form a single molecular composition. POSS improves product performance of standard product additives. POSS is created and manufactured by Hybrid Plastics, a chemical company in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
