Hybrid Product Earns Department of Defense Approval

EagleShield rifle bore cleaner has earned approval from the United States Department of Defense, making it just the second such product to meet military specifications.

With this approval comes the ability for the Department of Defense to purchase the rifle bore cleaner. Hybrid created and will manufacture the product, which utilizes its proprietary POSS® chemical additives.

The cleaner, which is water soluble, fizzes when coming into contact with lead. This allows instant identification of metal deposits. The cleaner turns blue when coming into contact with copper. These two features work together to clean all carbon residue, which is the principal cause of weapon malfunction.

Hybrid President Joe Lichtenhan said the Department of Defense approval represents a huge milestone for the chemical additive company based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

“We have been pursuing military qualification for some time, and to finally earn this designation is very rewarding,” said Lichtenhan. “This product will serve our men and women in uniform very well.”

The chief ingredient of Hybrid’s rifle bore cleaner includes polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, known as POSS®. POSS® is a nano-structural chemical that bridges the gap between ceramic and organic materials to form a single molecular composition. POSS® improves product performance of standard product additives.

Hybrid’s past work with its rifle bore cleaner includes a partnership with Talon Ordnance, a Mississippi-based manufacturer of advanced, service-grade weapons. Talon is the owner of EagleShield branded products.
